Frequently Asked Questions
What is an educational diagnostician?
An educational diagnostician is a certified professional who specializes in identifying learning differences, disabilities, and academic strengths through formal evaluation. I’m trained to administer and interpret assessments that measure things like cognitive ability, academic skills, memory, processing, and more.
I work closely with families, teachers, and other specialists to determine how a student learns best and what supports will help them succeed. In Texas (and some other states), educational diagnosticians are part of the special education eligibility process and help guide individualized education plans (IEPs).
In short: I translate data into action so that every student gets the support they deserve.
What does an evaluation include?
Each comprehensive evaluation includes a series of assessments and observations designed to understand how a student learns and what may be impacting their academic performance.
Depending on the referral concerns, an evaluation may include:
Cognitive testing (how a student processes information like memory, reasoning, and problem-solving)
Academic achievement testing (reading, writing, math, and oral language skills)
Screeners or rating scales for attention, executive functioning, social-emotional skills, or behavior (if applicable)
Review of educational history and prior interventions
Observations and input from parents, teachers, and the student (when appropriate)
A written report with results, interpretation, and practical recommendations
A feedback session to walk you through the results and next steps
My goal is always to provide clarity, not just scores. Many families choose to share the evaluation with their school to explore special education or 504 eligibility.
